In September 2025, the "Higress AI Gateway Development Challenge" officially kicked off, hosted by the Open Atom Open Source Foundation and co-organized by Alibaba Cloud and the Higress community. As a key competition focusing on the next generation of AI-native gateways, this competition revolves around the theme of "Building the Next Generation of Intelligent AI Gateways," attracting 77 teams from around the globe to participate. After three months of intense competition, it successfully concluded on December 24, 2025. This was not only a technical competition but also an important practice to promote innovation in AI infrastructure.

This challenge focuses on three core directions: accelerating AI Agent development, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) enhancement, and intelligent routing. Each direction aims to address key technical bottlenecks in the current AI gateway field, requiring entries to not only be functionally complete but also to achieve industry-leading levels in technical depth, theoretical basis, and engineering effectiveness. After fierce competition, a total of 11 teams reached the finals to compete for the first, second, third prizes, and the open-source contribution award.
